Ethnographic Collection Veprinac
a glimpse into old Opatija life
A living snapshot of old Opatija life awaits you in the Veprinac Ethnographic Collection. At the entrance to this charming medieval town, part of Opatija, stands the “komunšćica,” or municipal house, once the administrative center of the area. Today, it preserves memories of traditional crafts and skills. A corn mill, milk containers carried by dairy women, woven baskets used for hay and produce, tools, and other exhibits will give you an authentic impression of life in the Opatija hinterland at the beginning of the 20th century. You may even be greeted with a sweet surprise—traditional “Betini” cookies made according to an old recipe.
